Greetings All

Than You Kitza for leading us this week and for your topic. Hope you're home safe after your adventures in the islands. Thank You to all who have shared, and Congratulations to anyone celebrating a milestone this week. I'm Tony, recovered alcoholic, grateful to be with you again.

The first AA meeting i attended was a step meeting, the second a speaker meeting, and many weeks later that i started to read the Big Book from the begining. I had been been given a programme guide for an 18 week step meeting and attended this with some enthusiasm.

However i was selective with my reading, skipping chapters, eight and nine thinking they didn't apply to me. I read chapter ten - more out of curiosity - since it was my employer who challenged me about my work performance and drinking.

What a dumbo i was!

The speaker meetings were entertaining and enabled me to identify with some of my problems. Meantime my home life continued to fall apart, and i was working harder and longer hours than before. I realised that i was a workaholic as well as an alky - thought i was a smart guy, and could get by without a sponsor.

Fortunately, a table leader at the step meeting came to my aid - i started reading chapter nine, and set out to make things right with my wife and children. I attended Big Book meetings from A to Z.

It was a rough many months, but my home life was coming right, and i was starting to get some balance in my life. That was then- now - life is wonderful.

Thanks for being here for me again, reminding me that i thought i was a big shot but eventually learned to spell and take right action. Practice makes Progress.

Tony in Joburg.
