AAに来る前の私の心の中は、恐れでいっぱいでした。周りの人々は常に私を罰して傷つける人たちばかりだと思い込んでいました。AAに来たばかりの私のことを「まるで狂犬のようだった」と振り返る、旧知の仲間がいます。その頃の私は恐れでいっぱいで、常に周囲に対して威嚇の姿勢で生きていたのです。
スポンサーAAプログラムなどを指導してくれる先輩役のメンバー
と一緒にAAのステップに取り組むことで、多少時間はかかりましたが恐れがだんだん無くなっていきました。AAにいるのは決して私を傷つける恐ろしい人たちばかりではなく、私と同じく不器用でなかなか良い人たちなのだなと理解するようになりました。
長年かけ続けていた恐れのサングラスを外してみると、この世界はなんと美しく、面白く、奥深いものなんだろうと思います。サングラスを外してくれたのは誰なのでしょう？
ハイヤーパワー（HP=ハイヤーパワー）神、または高次の力、自分を超えた大きな力。意志と生き方をゆだねる対象。
？神様？その人の名前を私は知りません。自分は大きな鯨の背中に乗っている一匹の蟻のような者で、その存在の全てを理解などできませんが、私は大きな背中に乗って運ばれているという実感はあります。

My name is Yuu, and I’m an alcoholic. Thank you, Peter, for chairing the meeting.
Before I came to AA, my mind was filled with fear. I believed that the people around me were always out to punish and hurt me. A longtime friend who knew me back then once said that I was “like a rabid dog.” Looking back, I was full of fear and lived in a constant state of aggression toward those around me.
As I worked the AA Steps with my sponsor, it took some time, but my fear gradually began to fade. I came to understand that the people in AA were not frightening people out to hurt me, but rather, like me, imperfect yet genuinely good people.
When I take off the sunglasses of fear that I had worn for so many years, I’m struck by how beautiful, fascinating, and profound this world is. Who was it that removed those sunglasses? My Higher Power? God? I don’t know that being’s name.
I feel like an ant riding on the back of a great whale. I cannot possibly understand the whole of that existence, but I do have a sense that I am being carried along by something vast and powerful.
