How do I relate to the folks who made AA happen?
I have never thought about that. When I got sober in AA there were meetings, help, and books. But it was hope and the people around me that kept me there.
I read about them, respected them and became grateful for them. I believe they were spiritually guided and AA was HPs gift for a group of people who wanted it.
The first person in AA I could relate to was a speaker who killed someone in a bar fight. I Was shocked he talked about his feelings and I thought. Yes, I did not do the things he did. But I related to his feelings. I thought a lot about him and started looking around. My home group had 150 people or so. I started to think of them as my people, I belong here.
Without Bill and DR Bob most of us would have died one way or another from alcoholism.
Today AA only has a 42% cure or long time soberty. That means that the other 58 % of the people who come to AA do not want it. My sponsor used to tell me to watch the passing parade. That should tell you how important I feel about AA, it is for those who want it.
The book talks about science that may one day help us. We are still waiting. Day at a time.
