Good morning group,
Congratulations to Susan and any others celebrating some milestone, and welcome to the several newcomers to the group. We are all looking forward to knowing you better. ESH has been an important part of my recovery for the past 30 years. I hope you find something of value here as I did. Like Susan, I am celebrating an AA birthday. Today, July 1, I have gone 48 years without the need to take a drink. I do not see this as something earned, but rather a gift...not much different from the 80+ birthday I had a few weeks ago. I am very grateful for both. I am an example to the age old secret for long term sobriety, DON’T DRINK AND DON’T DIE. In trying to relate this to the topic for the week, what’s the spark that rejuvenates or keeps me going? It is regular meeting attendance. That is where my friends are, those I trust and learn from and whose lives I have seen change; that is where I see the program working for others: that is where I am continually reminded of the basics from the readings; that is where I see the program working, day by day, week by week, year by year, one alcoholic talking to another. I always feel better after a meeting.
And finally, Happy Birthday AA...90 years young and getting better every day.
