自分の言ったことやしたことが感謝され、称賛を受けるのは嬉しいことですが、 それは私が成し遂げたことではなく、すべて神がなさったことだと心に留めるようにしています。私はただ、聖フランシスコの祈りにある「道具」にすぎません。
AAで奉仕することは、結局のところ自分自身のためなのです。それは、私の
ソブラエティ神様・ハイヤーパワーとつながり、お酒を飲まない生活
、私の学び、そして私の成長のためのものです。私たちの
プログラム12ステッププログラム、回復のため原理、AAの基本プログラム。
は、ある意味で「利他的な自己利益」という原則の上に成り立っています。他者を助ける過程で、私は本当の恩恵を受け取るのです。希望、喜び、愛のメッセージを伝えるとき、私の人生もまた、より希望に満ち、喜びにあふれ、愛に満たされていきます。
ほかのアルコホリックと向き合っているとき、私は自分自身の学びを強化しています。私が伝えようとしていることは、まさに自分自身が学ぼうとしていることなのです。もし相手が何かを得ることができたなら、それは誕生日ケーキの上のアイシングのような（訳註：あれば嬉しいけれど、なくても本質は変わらない）ものにすぎません。

はよく、「神は必ず帳尻を合わせる」と言っていました。私がこの世界に送り出したものは、すべて自分自身の経験として返ってきます。私が手を差し伸べれば、どこかで誰かが私を迎え入れてくれるのです。苦しんでいるアルコホーリクとつながろうと行動しているとき、私の人生はより充実したものに感じられます。それは、ただただ素晴らしい生き方なのです。

It’s nice to receive compliments when something I’ve said or done is appreciated, but I try to remember that it’s nothing I did and everything God did. I’m just the channel that St Francis talks about in his prayer.
Being of service in AA is all about me. It's about my sobriety, my learning, and my growth. In a very real way our program is built upon the principle of enlightened self interest. In the process of helping others I receive real benefits. When I am passing on the message of hope, joy and love, my life becomes more hopeful, joyful, and loving.
When I'm working with another drunk I, am reinforcing my own learning. Whatever it is I'm trying to pass on is the very stuff I'm trying to learn. If another person benefits, its just icing on the birthday cake.
My grand sponsor used to say that God always balances the books. Whenever I put out into the universe comes back to me as my own experience. If I extend my hand in welcome, there is another hand somewhere welcoming me. When I'm taking the actions to connect with a still suffering alcoholic, my life feels more fulfilling. It's simply a wonderful way to live.
