アルコホーリクのドロシーです……1986年7月22日の最初のAAミーティング以来、神の恵みによって今日までソーバーでいます。この信じられないような奇跡、そしてこれまで私を支えてくれたAAの仲間たち全員に感謝しています。

初期のころ、「どうやれば（HOW）うまくいくのか」という話をよく耳にしました。そして今回は、皆さんの考えをぜひ聞かせていただきたいのです……「正直さ（Honesty）」「開かれた心（Open Mindedness）」「意欲（Willingness）」という概念のいずれか、あるいはすべてについて、そしてそれが今日のあなたの生活の中でどのように生きているかについて、分かち合ってください。
H (Honesty) ー 自分の飲酒について正直になることは、難しいことではありませんでした。毎日が深刻な問題だと自分でもわかっていたからです。でも

になってからは、「正直で誠実な生き方」について、さらに多くのことを学びました。なんという変化でしょう！正直さが土台になっていなければ、どんな種類の関係であれ、本当の意味でのつながりを築くことはできません —— たとえ、真実が居心地の悪いものであってもです。
O (Open Mindness) ー 開かれた心については、少しずつ進歩してきました。人生はこれを実践する機会にあふれています。私の助けになっていて、よく思い出すのが、
ビッグブックビッグブック・AAの基本テキスト（書籍）
の付録II「霊的体験」（266ページ）にあるハーバート・スペンサーの言葉です……（ご存じの通りです）。
「調べもしないで頭から軽蔑する」というあの言葉は、私の心に強く響きました。最初、私はそれを霊的なことに当てはめてみたのですが、それが驚くべき信仰の旅路へとつながりました。この姿勢は、人生のほかのあらゆる面についても同じように役立ちます。調べること、自分自身を内省すること、なぜそうしたいのかを確かめること、そして神に正しい道を示してもらうよう願うことで、私は「何が真実か」を見極めるための、とても有効な道具を持てるようになりました。その結果、これまでの信念が変わることもあれば、逆にその信念が裏づけられることもあります。大切なのは、自分なりに努力したという安心感を持てることです。
W (Willingness) ー もともと先延ばし癖はそれほどなかったので、行動を求められたとき、たとえ居心地の悪いことであっても、意欲（Willingness）が最大の問題になることはありません。私はむしろ早く片付けてしまいたいタイプです。ただ、自分の人生のすべての力を神にゆだねることについては、日々練習し続けています。しばしばそのことを思い出させてもらう必要があります。

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING
The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we suggest that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.
Comments should be closely related to recovery from alcoholism. "The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning anytime after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST."
All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

Hi ESH friends,
It’s a privilege to be with you for another meeting.. and I'm grateful for the opportunity to chair this week.
Let's open with the Serenity Prayer..... "God, grant me the serenity..... Amen."
I'm Dorothy, alcoholic... sober, by the grace of God, since my first AA meeting 39 years ago on July 22, 1986. Thanking Him for this mind boggling miracle and all my AA brothers & sisters who've helped me along the way.
I warmly welcome anyone new to ESH.. and I strongly encourage you to join in the discussion. This meeting is all of ours and your involvement makes it a better meeting.
In early sobriety I heard a lot about "HOW" it works.. and I'd like to hear your thoughts about any or all of these concepts ..... "Honesty, Open Mindedness, Willingness" and how they play into your life today.
H - Being honest with myself about my drinking wasn't difficult. I knew I was in major trouble every single day. In sobriety I've learned so much more about living an honest, true life. What a shift! I simply can’t have any type of meaningful relationship without honesty as the bedrock - even/especially when the truth is uncomfortable.
O - I've made some progress with open-mindedness. Life is full of occasions to practice this. The thing that helps me and often comes to mind is Herbert Spencer's quote found on Page 568 of the Big Book - Appendix II, Spiritual Experience... (you know it).
That whole "contempt prior to investigation" business really struck a chord. I first learned to apply it to spiritual matters - and it has led to an amazing faith journey. It's equally effective in all other aspects of life. With research, self examination, checking motives and asking for God's help with discernment, I have a very useful tool to help in finding what's true. It can lead me in different directions... but mainly I'll either shift a previous belief or that belief is confirmed. I rest easier knowing I've tried.
W - Never having been a huge procrastinator, willingness isn't my biggest challenge when an action is called for - even uncomfortable actions. I'd rather get them behind me. Being willing to give God all power over my life is something I keep practicing, daily. I often need reminders.
