ESHExperience, Strength, and Hope -

Thank you for the topic. A big "Hello" and "How are ya?" to my ESH friends. My Share: Psychic Change / Transformation I receive the Gift of Desperation
AA Finds me in the nutward of our local hospital
AA takes me to my first meeting.
I get a Sponsor
I learn what Alcoholism is.
A Spiritual Malady that makes alcohol a solution (albeit a deadly one) and therefore an obsession coupled with a craving that produces an abnormal reaction. I want more solution and more and more. (This is going to kill me.)
This was my first awakening. Who knew?
I get it. This is me. I’m hooked but not yet in the boat. I make it 30 days before my first relapse.
Back to treatment and thankfully back to meetings and a new sponsor. I didn’t go out because of anything my first sponsor did. It was only due to what I didn’t do.
Back through the steps from the beginning. I’m warned that if I don’t thoroughly and completely finish Step 9 I will drink again. I don’t and I do relapse. I made it 4 months.
Back to treatment and thankfully back to meetings.
I finish the steps. I thought. I make it 16 months and relapse.
I go out. Never coming back. Alcohol worked until it didn’t. I come back, make my amends to those I had ghosted and deceived. I finished (for now) my 9th step and now have 16 months.
Sorry for the long share but this doomed to freedom thing has taken me through some of the deepest soul searching of my life. I’ve trusted God, cleaned house and helped others. My Dad taught me that if I did it right the first time I wouldn’t have to do it again. That advice has wrung true here more than anywhere or time in my life. My thinking kept getting in the way. God’s will, not mine is the solution. A clear cut set of directions is necessary for me to follow every day. I have those directions, I have a God of my understanding that loves me and others unconditionally. God is bigger and better than my understanding. I am a member of a Fellowship that loves me and holds me close. I participate in all 3 legacies as much as possible. I have a freedom that I never knew could exist. I have a new solution (not a deadly one, but a life giving one). I wake up and remember this new life that God and the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous has given me, get to work applying the 12 Steps and trudge the road of happy destiny with my fellows.
Who knew? I’m convinced that some of the most important things in life have been hiding in plain sight all my life and it was me that was choosing to not see them. Thank you God and Alcoholics Anonymous!
