[ESH] What a life! - George (2026/9/9)

Hi, everyone. George, a drunk. Thank you, Jan, for chairing.

On February 2nd, 1984, I attended my first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in the basement of a former church in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. I've been an active member since then.

I considered myself creative in those days, having had a number of poems and one short story in magazines published by various American universities and colleges, but I never have had the wherewithal to create the life I've been awarded since that cold day in '84, which is the reason why I am daily, and I mean each and every day, grateful to Gus, my higher power, and to the folks in AA, some of them my best friends for over forty years. What a life, this life of sobriety!

And that's the way it works for me.

This is an amateur translation, so take it with a grain of salt.
