の今週のミーティングへようこそ。

ミーティングの構成は、司会者がその週のトピックを選び、グループの誰もがそのトピックについて分かち合ったり、あるいはトピックの代わりに、その月に対応するステップや伝統についてシェアすることができます。例えば、11月にはステップ11や伝統11についてシェアすることができます。より多くの仲間の参加を促すことを目的として、最近このように変更しました。

はメールを用いたグループであるため、シェアする人は、他の形式のミーティングで見られるような笑顔やうなずく姿が見えません。私たちの中には、メールで返事を送ることでその共感や賛同を伝える人もいます。しかし、グループ全体への投稿を最小限に抑えるために、個人的なメッセージはグループを通さず、直接その人に送るようお願いしています。

のミーティングは日曜日の未明早朝以降（米国東部標準時）に始まり、次の土曜日の午後11時59分まで、メンバーは分かち合いを行うことが出来ます。全メンバーは、ご自身のAA記念日である・デートに分かち合いを行うことが推奨されています。AA以前の生活がどうだったか。何が起こって、現在はどうなっているかを、グループの仲間に教えてください。

アルコホーリクのマークです。今日飲まずにいられることに、本当に感謝しています。AAのおかげです！

私には昔から、少し挑発的なところがあるんです――それは性格上の欠点なのかもしれないし、あるいは受け入れるべき自分の資質の一部なのかもしれません。そんなわけで、今週のトピックの導入として、あえて大胆なことを言いたいと思います。「がなかったら、私たちは今日ここにはいなかったでしょう。」

AAのがなくても、私たちの個人の中には生き延びていた人や、もしかするとソーバーでいられた人もいたかもしれません。でも過去の数々の混乱と衝突を通して形づくられた、現在の形のAAは、伝統という特有のガードレールなしには生き残れなかっただろうと私には思えるのです。

私がそう考えるのは

1）AAの歴史について読んできたこと
2）『12&12』の（それほど無名ではない）著者が、その背景について語る際に残している手がかり
3）そして、グループやAA全体がどのように（辛うじて）まとまっているかについての私自身の経験

こういったものに基づいています。

今週のトピックとして、（もともとは “12 Pointsto Assure our Future” - 「私たちの未来を保証する12の指針」として発表されたもの）がいかに重要かについて皆さんがどう思うか、そしてそれが皆さん自身の回復にどのように関わっているのかを、ぜひ聞かせてください。

先日、ブダペスト（ハンガリー）で対面ミーティングに参加しました。一年以上ぶりのリアルのミーティングでしたが、「個人より原理」ということと、「ミーティングでイラッとさせらることが無いなら、ミーティングの数が足りていないということ」という昔からの言葉の真実味を、改めて思い出させてくれました。

そこにはたくさんの文献が並べられていて、その中に、私はこれまで見たことのないパンフレットがありました。“Traditions Checklist（伝統チェックリスト）”というもので、どうやら1969年から1971年にかけて AA グレープバイン（機関紙）に連載された「」に関する連載で最初に掲載されたもののようでした。

そこには例えば、こんな問いかけがあります。「愛についてもっともらしいことを口にしながら、その一方で敵意に満ちた行動を取り、それを内心では正当化してはいないだろうか？」（伝統1）

あるいは伝統10――「AAは外部の問題について意見を持たない」――については、「AAの外にいる時の私生活で、私はどのようにこの伝統の精神を実践できるだろうか？ AAの中ではどうだろうか？」という問いがありました。

最初に AA にいた頃の私は、少しだけをしていました。土曜の夜に酒を飲む以外のことをするためにコーヒーを入れたり、自分の体験を話せるようスピーカーに名乗り出たりしていました。でも、主にグループの力学やグループ全体の福利に関わるものに見えていた「」については、真剣に受け止めていませんでした。

二度目に AA に戻ってきた時 ―― それは少しくらいならコントロールして飲めるのではと試してみて、ついには打ちのめされたあとでした（しかも私は、「疑いがあるなら試してみるといい」と、にそう書かれているのを理由に (※1) 、飲むことを正当化していたのです！） ――私は再びステップに取り組みました。そして、AA は私がいなくても力強く続いてきたのだと気づきました。

最近、私ので、愛されてはいるけれどまだ苦しんでいるあるメンバーが、ちょっとした騒動を起こしました。その中で、多くの伝統の原理が実際に関わってくることになりました。

私たちの第一の目的とは。
メンバーとなるの唯一の条件。
個人の回復よりもグループ全体の一体性を優先すること。
グループの良心から生まれる力と不思議さ

そしてもちろん、無名性（アノミニティ）が霊的な土台であり、「個人より原理を優先する」ことを私たちに思い出させてくれるということです。

AAのは皆さんそれぞれの日常の中で、どのような意味を持っているでしょうか？そして、その原理を日々の生活の中でどのように実践していますか？

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING

The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic or as an alternative, a member may share on the step or tradition correlating to the month of the year. For example, in November you may share on Step 11 or Tradition 11. This is a recent change we hope will encourage more participation.

Since ESH is an email-based group, a person who shares does not see the smile or nodding head that he/she does in other meeting formats.

Some of us provide that validation through an email response. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we do request that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.

The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning any time after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST. All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

Greetings all:

My name is Mark and I’m alcoholic. Mighty glad I don’t have to drink today, thanks to AA!

I’ve always been inclined to being a little provocative— arguably a character defect and/or part of my DNA that I need to accept— and so to set the stage for the topic this week I’d like to make a bold statement: without the 12 traditions, we wouldn’t be here today.

Maybe some of us would be alive and possibly sober without the AA Traditions, but my sense is that Alcoholics Anonymous as it exists today would not have survived without the uniquely crafted guardrails for AA that the traditions—forged on the anvil of turmoil— provide. I say this based on 1) what I’ve read of AA history, 2) clues left by the (not-so anonymous) author of the 12 X 12 when he describes some of the backstory , 3) and my own experience of how groups and AA as a whole are (barely) organized.

So for the topic today, I’d love to hear whether you agree on the vital importance of the traditions (originally published as 12 Points to Assure our Future) and how they fit into your recovery.

The other day I went to a face to face meeting in Budapest— my first in-person meeting in more than a year— and it was a good reminder of principles over personalities and truth in the old saying “if someone doesn’t annoy you at a meeting, you aren’t going to enough meetings.”

There was a table full of literature including a brochure I’d never seen before: Traditions Checklist, which apparently first appeared in the AA Grapevine in a series on the 12 traditions that ran from 1969 to 1971. Some of them are questions, like: Do I spout platitudes about love while indulging in and secretly justifying behavior that bristles with hostility? (Tradition 1). Or on Tradition 10 (AA has no opinion on outside issues): How can I manifest the spirit of this Tradition in my personal life outside AA? Inside AA?

My first time around in AA I did a little service— making coffee on Saturday night just so I had something to do besides drink, sign up as a speaker for meetings so I could tell my story— but I didn’t take the Traditions, which largely seem to focus on group dynamics and group welfare, seriously.

The second time around, finally beaten down by trying a little controlled drinking (which I justified because the Big Book recommended it if we had any doubts!), I revisited the steps but realized AA had kept going strong without me.

Recently a beloved for tormented member of my home group has generated a bit of drama within the group and many of the traditions have come into play: our primary purpose; the only requirement for membership; putting group unity slightly ahead of a single person’s recovery; the power and magic of group conscience; and of course anonymity being the spiritual foundation, reminding us to place principles before personalities.

So how do the traditions of AA fit into your corner of the universe and how do you practice their principles in your life?
