思い返せば、AAに来て最初の頃の私はそのスローガンを自分が霊的に優れていることを示す印のように吹聴していました。「見てくれ、自分は神に選ばれた存在なんだ」と。まあ、Bill Wilson はAAを「霊的な幼稚園」と呼びましたが、当時の私はまさに幼稚園児そのものでした。
ずっと後になってから、神がAAの仲間たちを通して惜しみなくGrace（恩寵）を与えてくれていたのだと気づきました。見ず知らずの

だった私を皆が囲んで支えてくれたこと、自分はひとりではないと感じさせてくれたささやかな親切、そして、私が馬鹿げたことを口走っていても忍耐強く接してくれた
スポンサーAAプログラムなどを指導してくれる先輩役のメンバー
の存在――。
Grace（恩寵）とは、誰にでも与えられる、神からの無条件の恵みです。私が今ここにいるのは、それが何であるかを言葉で説明できるようになる前から、その恵みを受け入れていたからです。

Oh boy, in my early years did I spout that slogan as a signal of my spiritual superiority. Look at me and how I have been chosen by God. Well, Bill Wilson did call AA a spiritual kindergarten. I was a toddler.
Only later did I come to see that God was freely extending his Grace thru you. The rallying around me as a stranger newcomer, the simple acts of kindness that signalled I was not alone, the patience of my sponsor as I spouted some foolish nonsense.
Grace is God's unearned favor, available to all. I'm only here because I accepted it, even before I could articulate what Grace was.
