私にとって言葉は大切なものですが、あるAAミーティングが「セキュラー（非宗教的）」という形容詞を使っていることに気づきました。セキュラーAAミーティングというものは、これまで聞いたことがありませんでした。（私の身近には）ウィスコンシン州の私の住むウォーパンという小さな町から15マイルほど離れたビーバー・ダムに、女性ミーティングがあるだけです。
そこで、インターネットでセキュラーAAを調べてみたところ、赤と青のウェブサイトを見つけました。そこには次のように書かれていました。「セキュラーAAは、無神論者、不可知論者、自由思想を持つAAメンバーのコミュニティに奉仕するために存在し、世界中でセキュラーAAミーティングへのアクセスを支援し、アルコール依存症を持つセキュラー志向の人々の増えつつある集団の中で相互支援を促進します。」
42年以上前にAAミーティングに通い始めた当初から、そして今に至るまで、私は自分が「神」というものに対して問題を抱えていることを認めてきました。実際のところ、私の

Since language is important to me, I noticed your employing the adjective secular in describing AA meetings you attend. Never heard of Secular AA meetings before. There's a Women's Meeting in Beaver Dam, fifteen miles away from my small town of Waupun, Wisconsin.
So, I looked up Secular AA on the net and found its red and blue website, which states "Secular AA exists to serve the community of atheist, agnostic and freethinking AA members by supporting worldwide access to secular A.A. meetings and fostering mutual support within a growing population of secularly-minded people with alcohol use disorder."
I've admitted from the start of my attending AA meetings over forty-two years ago, and still admit to this very day, that I have a problem with the God thing. In fact, Gus is my higher power. That hasn't mattered to anyone except a man I sponsored whose father's name was Gus.
No matter what I believe, AA folks have continued to say or imply to me, Keep coming back, George. It works if you work it. And that's the way it works for me.
