ガレージには、もう何年も前から一枚のサイン、――ずいぶん昔のホールマーク社（訳註・グリーティングカードや
ギフト神様・ハイヤーパワーからの贈り物
用品を製作・販売している会社）製の飾り板が掛けられています。そこには黄色いラブラドールの子犬のアップ写真があり、こんな言葉が記されています。「何も期待しない人は幸いである。その人は失望することがないから。」
自分自身や他の人に対する期待にどう対処しているかを考えると、誰にでも自分の行動を決める権利があるということを忘れてしまったようなときに、ちょっとした一時的な「つまずき」が生じます。そんなとき私は自分に言い聞かせます。私たちは人間だ……不完全な存在だ……そして間違いも犯すのだ、と。
結果がどうであれ、それを受け入れることは感情の上での

80代半ばというこの年齢の私が、自分に抱いている期待は何でしょうか。今日も、そして毎日、生きていることに感謝し、比較的正気でいられること、健康であることに感謝すること……そして、

Hello. Pam, a grateful alcoholic happy to be at our meeting. Congratulations birthday celebrants…Craig 45!… and welcome and special welcome to people new to ESH. Expectations. Thank you, Dan for introducing the topic and your share on it. The shares so far are of great benefit.
In the garage for many years hangs a sign, a plaque, a Hallmark creation from some time ago, with a close up picture of a yellow Lab pup. The wording on the plaque, “Blessed are those who expect nothing for they shall not be disappointed.”
With thinking about how I deal with expectations of myself and others, there are a few, momentary “bumps in the road” brought about when I fail to remember that everyone has the right to determine their actions. I remind myself: we are humans…we are fallible…we make mistakes.
Acceptance of outcomes whatever they are is crucial to emotional sobriety…knowing that I am not in charge of anyone else. This same formula operates with family and groups.
What is the expectation I have of myself at this tender age of mid 80s? Today and every day to be grateful for being alive, relatively sane, good health…the promises in varying degrees on pp. 83-84.
