AAやに新しくつながった仲間、あるいは最近つながった仲間たち、ようこそ。ここで私や多くの仲間が見つけた、うまくいく生き方を見つけられることを願っています。AAのバースデーを迎えたすべての仲間へ、おめでとうございます！

少年時代、私は自分の友人の多くが、好きなスポーツの歴史を学び、選手やチームの統計を覚え、スポーツについて知りうる限りのことを暗記しているのを知っていました…でも私は違いました。私はスポーツをするのは好きでしたが、その歴史にはあまり興味がありませんでした。AAに戻り、の助けを受けずにたくさんのミーティングに通った結果しらふで底をつき、そしてAAの行動の（）を紹介されたとき、私はAAの歴史に興味を持ち始めました…非常に興味を持ちました。この命を救ってくれる生き方は、私がそれを必要としていたときにここにありましたが、私は今回の降伏をする以前から、自分の生き方に対する解決策を本当に探していたわけではありませんでした。

AAにつながって何十年も経ち、幾度ものしらふでの底つきを経験し、仲間とのつながりや行動に積極的に関わってきた現在でも、私はAAの歴史やその成り立ちに変わらず興味を持っています。おそらくこれは、自分が何者であるか、そして何であるかを絶対的に理解しているからでしょう。私は慢性的なアルコホーリクであり、長年にわたって自分の人生だけでなく周囲の人々にも混乱と苦痛をもたらした結果、絶望的に思える心身の状態から救われたのです。

ステップ1は『私たち（We）』という言葉で始まります…そして私には、この『私たち』とは、AAに来て、降伏し、自分のできる限りでに取り組み、ステップ12でメッセージを伝える人々を指していることがわかります。『これらのステップを経た結果、私たちは霊的に目覚め、このメッセージをアルコホーリクに伝え、私たちのすべてことにこの原理を実行しようと努力した』のです。(日本語版 p86)

今日、AAの仲間の輪が変わっていく中で、何年も試行錯誤しながら過ごしてきた経験を通して、私はよりはっきりと理解しています。変化に賛同したり好きになる必要はありませんが、自分がAAの中でどんな立場にあるのか、神が私に何を求め、何を行うように呼びかけているのかを理解する必要があるということです。私は深く責任を感じています…AAの中だけではありませんが、とりわけAAの中で…かつての私のように、AAがもたらす希望を求める人々に、明確で、できれば効果的なAAのメッセージを伝える責任です。そのために、私が見つけた最良の方法は、AAのを学び、実践することで、霊的に健全な状態を手に入れてそれを維持するためにあらゆる努力をすることです。過去に行ったことを他の仲間に教えたりシェアするだけでなく、現在自分が行っていることをシェアして、ソーバーになってから何年経っても、自分の過ちに対して率直であることが大切なのです。

私は決してAAの中で人気のあるメンバーではありませんが、それでも多くのミーティングに出るだけではソーバーを保てないが、AA草創期のメンバーが非常に重要だと考えた行動のを実際に実行できるようにと、私のところに送られることが多いようです。今週はAAの歴史からひとつトピックを出したいと思います…1965年、カナダのトロントで行われた国際コンベンションで採択された：

「私の責任　誰かがどこかで助けを求めたら、必ずそこにAAの（愛の）手があるようにしたい。それは私の責任だ。」

これ（責任宣言）はあなた個人にとってどんな意味がありますか、あるいは今週シェアしたいと感じることは何でも結構です…ミーティングは今、あなたの手に委ねられました。

WELCOME TO THE ESH WEEKLY MEETING

The structure of an ESH meeting is that the chairperson selects a topic for the week and anyone in the group has the option to share on that topic. In order to keep the postings to a minimum for the entire group, we suggest that personal messages be sent directly to that person and not via the Group.

Comments should be closely related to recovery from alcoholism. "The ESH meeting will begin no earlier than Sunday morning anytime after midnight EST and members are requested to post their shares no later than the following Saturday night at 11:59 PM EST."

All members are encouraged to share their A.A. anniversary on their annual sobriety date. Tell the group what your life was like before AA, what happened, and what it's like today.

Welcome to anyone who is new or relatively new to AA or to ESH...I hope you find here what I and many others have found, a way of living which works. Congratulations to any and all celebrating an AA milestone!

As a boy I knew many friends who learned the history of whatever sport they loved to play, learning the athletes, the stats on them and their teams, and memorizing everything they could about the sport...not me. I loved playing sports but the history never really interested me. When I came back to AA, hit a bottom in sobriety after going to a ton of meetings without the benefit of the 12 Steps, and was introduced to the AA program of action, I became interested...very interested...in the history of AA, this life saving way of life that was here when I needed it, though I hadn't really looked for any solution to the way I had been living before this surrender.

Decades later, after hitting many sober bottoms and being active in the fellowship and in the program of action, I find myself just as interested in the history and how AA came to be. Probably this is due to my absolute knowledge of who and what I am, a chronic alcoholic that has been saved from a seeming hopeless state of mind and body after many years of causing havoc and pain not just in my life but in those around me.

Step 1 starts with the word "We"...and I know that the we means those who came to AA, surrendered and worked the 12 Steps to the best of their willingness, carrying the message of Step 12 "Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs."

Today after many years of sometimes having to survive in what the fellowship of AA has become, I see more clearly that while I don't have to agree with or like the change, I do have to understand what my place in AA is and what God has called me to be and do.//I deeply feel responsible...not just in AA, but especially in AA...to carry a clear and hopefully effective AA message to anyone who is just as I was, seeking the hope AA offers. To do this I have found that the best way to do this is to make every effort to get and stay spiritually fit through the learning and application of the 12 Steps of AA. Not just share about and teach others what I did sometime in the distant past, share what I currently do and be openly transparent with my mistakes even years into sobriety.

While I'm not the most popular guy in AA, I seem to be one of those that the newcomer who can't stay sober in many meetings is sent to so they can actually do the program of action the early members thought was so important. I'd like to throw out a topic this week from AA history...the 1965 International Convention in Toronto, Canada:

“I am Responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.”

What does this mean to you personally, or whatever else you feel led to share this week...the meeting is yours now.
