今、ミーティングから帰ってきたところです。そこでは、

43年から10日目の仲間まで、それぞれが経験と力と希望を分かち合っていました。もちろん「How It Works - 第五章どうやればうまくいくのか」を読み合せ、そしてある仲間がこう思い出させてくれました。ビルが最初に書いた

Hi, everyone. My name is Dave and I am an alcoholic. Thanks for a terrific topic and getting us started, Mark. Welcome to all and congrats to AA (and HP!) for any milestones we celebrate this week. The program works!
I just got home from a meeting where folks with from 43 years to 10 days sober shared their experience, strength, and hope with each other. We read How it Works, of course, and one of fellow reminded us that in Bill’s original draft of the Big Book, he wrote, “Never have we seen a person fail . . . “
In 1989, I met Clancy U. at a meeting in Barbers Point, Hawaii. He had 51 years then and was one of the 5,000 men that Dr. Bob sponsored. Two years later, I transferred to Guam and found a sponsor, Al Taylor, who was one of Clancy’s pigeons (that was what Dr. Bob called “sponsees”). Every single one of us has lineage back to those early members, whether we can trace it or not.
The story of AA’s early days is replete with miracles — as are the lives of recovery alcoholics today — one of my favorites is when Bill (ever the marketeer and pitch man) got to speak about AA in 1940 hosted by none other than John D. Rockefeller and his wealthy friends. After hearing about the fledgling organization and its purpose to carry the message of recovery to hopeless drunks, he declined to invest the sum that Bill wanted, saying, “I think money will spoil this.” That’s why we have our 7th Tradition.
