多くの仲間には簡単な質問のように思えるかもしれませんが、私のこれまでの経験では、その答えは誰に尋ねるかによって大きく異なることがあります。もし新しい仲間にそう尋ねられた場合 ―― つまり、まだ私と霊的なコンセンサス（共通認識）を持っていない仲間であれば ―― 私の簡単な答えは、「AAの

）やその他の文献を読むと、AAの初期のメンバーが必要だと見なした霊的な行動を取ることの意図やその結果が、とても明確に示されています。ビルは、今でいう「ポリティカル・コレクトネス」にはあまり関心がなかったようで、

残念なことに、今ではAAを別のものにしたがる人も多く、（アルコホーリクがやるように）自分のやりたいやり方で、新しい仲間にまったく違うメッセージを伝えてしまうことがあります。文献から引用するまでもありませんが、そこにはAAのメッセージを他の仲間に伝えることがはっきり簡潔に書かれていると思います。もしあなたが「今の生き方はうまくいっていない」と思い、私にとってうまくいっている生き方を経験してみたいのなら、私は喜んで自分がやってきたこと、そして今も続けていることを紹介します。ですが、あなたと議論するつもりはありませんし、もし他のやり方を試したいなら、その意見を尊重しますから、どうぞやってみてください。私にとって、

Welcome to anyone who is new or relatively new to AA or to ESH...I hope you find here what I and many others have found, a way of living which works. Congratulations to any and all celebrating an AA milestone!!!
Thanks George for your topic of "What does 'working the program' mean?".
While it may seem to be a simple question to many, my experience over the years is the answer to that question can be very different depending on who you are asking. If a new man is asking...one I don't already have spiritual consent with...my simple answer would be that the program of AA is the 12 Steps laid out in our basic text. With the men who I have been given spiritual consent my answer is going to be a bit more involved.
When reading the basic text and other literature from the early days of AA it is very clear what the intent of (and results from) doing the spiritual actions the early members found necessary. Bill didn't seem to care much about what we now call "political correctness" and tells us more than once that the result needed to recover from alcoholism is a spiritual awakening/experience and that just not drinking is not the answer.
Unfortunately many nowadays would like AA to be something different and will do do whatever they want to do (like alcoholics do) and they'll carry quite a different message to the new person. I don't have to quote from our literature, though I do think it's put out plain and simple there, to carry the AA message to another...if you have decided that the way you are living isn't working and would like to experience a way that works for me I'm more than happy to show you what I've done and continue to do. But I won't argue with you and will respect your opinion if you want to try something else, go do that. The AA way that is tried and true as laid out in our basic text works fine for me...just ask those in my life (especially my wife and kids) and watch me live it and you can decide for yourself.
Of course this has just been my experience...yours may be different.
