しかし、昨夜「ナイトライト (※)」を朗読して、この一文が私の思考を大きく揺り動かしました。「私たちから心の平安を奪うものを取り除くことで、人生の豊かさを増すことができる。」
そう、それはもっともです。では、なぜ私は、34年間連れ添った妻に対して何も言話なくても自分の心を読んでほしいと固く信じているのでしょうか。なぜ、私の車の前を走るドライバーがウインカーを使わないことにいら立つのでしょうか。彼らは私から運転のコツを少しは学べるはずなのに。なぜ、自転車に乗っている私のすぐそばをすり抜けていくピックアップトラックの運転手に腹を立てるのでしょうか。少なくとも、中指を立ててやるべきではないでしょうか。
前述の例は、日常生活の中で私から心の平安を奪うほんの一部の出来事です。自分の感情の責任は自分が負うべきなので、今はそのいくつかを改善することに力を注いでいます。そして、それが私にとってのやり方なのです。

Hi, everyone. George, a drunk. Thank you, Debbie, for chairing. After first reading your share, I thought to myself that I hadn't attempted to change any child or family member of mine. Thus, the weekly ESH topic had nothing to do with me.
However, in last night's "Night Light" reading, this line set me on a river of thought: "We can increase the richness in our lives by eliminating whatever robs us of our peace of mind."
Yes, that makes sense. So, why do I insist that my bride of 34 years read my mind when I haven't told her anything? Why do I fret that the driver ahead of my vehicle isn't using her or his turn signal? They could learn a few driving pointers from me. Why am I upset with the pickup truck driver who passes too close to me while I'm riding my bicycle? The very least is I should give him the finger, shouldn't I?
The preceding examples are just a few of things in my daily life that rob me of my peace of mind. Since I'm responsible for my feelings, I'm now dedicated to mend a few of them. And that's the way it works for me.
