Hello…Pam, a grateful alcoholic. Happy birthday, Jeff…and thank you for leading with the topic and your share. Answering your questions…how decided I wanted what AA had and proved to keep it. Three weeks in a protected environment and knowing others were there for the same reason I was with faith and trust our lives would get better. Everyday living had become unbearable and the only relief was knowing I could escape with drinking at night. I believed what my sponsor told me, listening to readings from the big book at meetings, trusting the people (Gene xxxx) running the rehab truly were there to help me. Basically, so basic, it seems so simple…I followed directions. Hundreds, thousands of others who came to AA were able to stay sober following the “suggested program of recovery” as written in the book. Further, the stories in the back attest that the program actually works! (^^ Looking in my big book cover copy, Chapter 5 first page, the word honest is highlighted three times. Honesty, open mindedness, and willingness…all three in combination with the 12 steps bring fulfilling sobriety. Peace…
